the Process

Three phases, one coherent vision.

Shaping space, lifestyle and long-term value.

  • The project begins with the plan in black and white, free from materiality or atmosphere. Proportion, flow, sightlines and the architectural foundation of the home are defined

  • The spatial foundation is translated into a complete design language. Elevations, sections, materials and samples bring the project into focus. While bespoke kitchens, joinery, custom furniture pieces and architectural details are designed as integral parts of the home.

    Together, these elements resolve the atmosphere, functionality and final character of the home.

  • Once the design is defined, the project moves into realisation.
    Makers, suppliers and contractors are carefully aligned and briefed. Furnishings, lighting, sanitaryware and key interior elements are not only specified, but can also be supplied directly, ensuring continuity, quality and a coherent result.

    Budgets, selections and responsibilities are brought together into a clear overview. During execution, close aesthetic guidance remains in place, safeguarding the design intent and helping the home reach its full potential as a place to live, and as a lasting asset.

Phase 01

Phase 01 focused on creating a clear and considered layout based on the client’s brief. The aim was to preserve the essence of the existing bungalow and its mid-century modern character, while making the architecture more pronounced and bringing it up to contemporary standards.

In keeping with the brief, the front of the house remains restrained and private, while the interior gradually unfolds towards the garden at the rear. Clean lines, generous open spaces and carefully compressed transitions create a sense of rhythm and discovery. Views of the landscape are maximised throughout, giving the floor plan a strong visual quality even before it is experienced in three dimensions.

Phase 02

Phase 02 focused on developing a material palette that connects the interior to the surrounding woodland, while introducing a sense of drama in keeping with the mid-century modern character established in Phase 01. Inspired by nature and the confident use of contrasting colours in fashion, the palette is built around two principal materials: warm, reddish-toned timber and cool grey Ceppo di Gré stone. The timber references both the forest outside and the character of American mid-century bungalows, while the stone provides a calm, grounding contrast.

Every subsequent colour and material choice evolved from the interplay between these two foundations. A richly red-veined marble introduces moments of impact where needed, responding to the client’s defining request: “It has to be spectacular.”

With the material direction established, each bespoke element from kitchens and cabinetry to architectural details and finishes was carefully designed and drawn. Every junction, proportion and material transition was developed with the original concept in mind, ensuring that all elements align as one considered whole.

Phase 03

Phase 03 is where the design is brought to life. Contractors, craftspeople and specialist partners are selected for their quality, expertise and shared commitment to the project, then carefully briefed to deliver their best work.

Throughout the construction phase, I remain closely involved with everyone responsible for its execution. This continuous dialogue ensures that the design intent, material choices and carefully developed details are respected at every stage. The result is a striking home that remains true to the vision established throughout the previous design phases.

Architecture & interior design

By designing both the architecture and the interior, the concept could be developed consistently at every scale. From the overall spatial composition to the smallest bespoke detail, every element was considered as part of one coherent whole resulting in a seamless connection between exterior and interior.

FURNITURE, ART & OBJECTS

Furniture, lighting, art and objects are considered an integral part of the design rather than additions made afterwards. Every piece is carefully selected and procured through the studio, in collaboration with some of the world’s leading brands, galleries and makers, to create an interior that feels complete, distinctive and deeply personal.

beyond cabinetry

Bespoke cabinetry and furniture are designed as an integral part of the architecture, extending far beyond their functional purpose. Part architectural element and part furniture piece, they define transitions, form walls, integrate storage and bring a distinctive expression to the interior.

Every element is developed specifically for the space, with close attention to proportion, material and detail. The pieces are then brought to life by trusted craftspeople whose skill and precision ensure that the original design intent is fully realised.
